The only way to improve reading is to READ! We have been setting reading goals. Many of the students want to improve their comprehension in some way, whether it be to remember more of what they've read, monitor their comprehension, be able to summarize what they've read, or be able to answer questions about what they've read. At home, you can help! Here are a list of questions that could be used to help them check up on their understanding. You can also ask for clarification, by asking questions like, "How do you know this?" or "What was in the text to make you think this?"
Want to make it more of a reading game? Write the following discussion prompts on coloured popsicle sticks. Put them in a jar and pull one out at a time to discuss. These are the same prompts that we will be using in class, and can be used with any book, at any time!
